Directions to Kalani Honua
Flying to the Hawaii, "The Big Island"

Option 1: Fly to Hilo (ITO)
Fly to Hilo from other island airports such as Honolulu on Oahu, Kahului on Maui, Lihue on Kauai, or Kona, here on the west side of Hawaii, the Big Island. Several flights are offered daily with Aloha Airlines (1-800-367-5250), Hawaiian Airlines (1-800-367-5320), and go! Airlines (1-888-IFLYGO2).

Fly direct to Hilo from Oakland with ATA (1-800-435-9282).

Kalani is only a 45 minute drive from the Hilo airport. There is also the Hele On county bus that leaves from downtown Hilo. This is a slow, but inexpensive option, that comes right to Kalani, if you can coordinate schedules.

Driving to Kalani from the Hilo International Airport (ITO)

Leaving the Hilo airport, turn left at traffic light onto Kanoelehua Ave/ Highway 11 South. Continue on Hwy 11 until you are out of town (about 5.9 miles). Turn left onto Kea'au Pahoa Bypass Road/ Highway 130 South and continue for 21 miles (passing Pahoa). Just past a green church and in sight of the ocean, a sign will direct you either to Kalapana or End of Road. Turn left towards Kalapana, then curve right. Follow this short road to a stop sign at a T-junction and turn left onto Kalapana-Kapoho Rd/ Coastal Highway 137. After about 5 miles, between the 17 and 18 mile-markers, and a half-mile beyond Kalapana Sea View Estates, Kalani will be on your left, marked with a lighted entrance sign.

Are there telephones available for out-going calls? We have two phone lines in our reception area and cafe, available from 8 am to 10:30 pm daily. Will my cell phone work at Kalani? We are out of range for most cell phone networks , however there is some limited reception on the property. Guests with AT&T as their service provider seem best able to get a decent signal. Can I check my email at Kalani? There is an Ethernet line (RJ-45 jack) available in the café, as well as a wireless network, but you will need to bring your own laptop with either a regular network jack or a wireless card. Usage is free. The Ethernet line is connected to the Internet via DSL. Dial-up service is not available. If you don't have your own computer, you can still check your email for an hourly fee (inquire at the reception) What to expect - is Kalani suitable for me? Kalani is a community that celebrates life in ways that embrace a natural lifestyle. We live in harmony with the jungle environment, which means you will probably encounter harmless creatures such as spiders, geckos and mongoose. There are mosquitoes here, so we recommend that you bring a repellent spray. Our accommodations are simple and comfortable, with no televisions or phones. You may view panoramas of our rooms. Please feel free to call or email us if you have any questions about your stay at Kalani. 1-800-800-6886 (toll free in USA and Canada), 1-808-965-7828 (worldwide) or kalani@kalani.com

This is where I hope you and your friend can still get reservations, this is close to me. See layout map of retreat below....
